“Chain-Reaction” Crash In Kane County
There was a St. Charles multi-vehicle accident (a “chain-reaction” crash) on Route 31, north of Wood Lane, on November 30 at 5:55 p.m.
According to the St. Charles Police Department, the “chain-reaction” accident occurred as a Jeep Commander traveling southbound on Route 31 struck a Volkswagen Jetta that was stopped in traffic. This accident began a “chain-reaction” crash, as the Jetta was pushed into a Honda Pilot that was waiting to make a left-hand turn.
Then, another collision occurred. As seen in the December 1, 2017 Kane County Chronicle article titled “Chain reaction car crash injures 2 in St. Charles” citing St. Charles Police Department Deputy Chief Dave Kintz:
The impact pushed the Honda and the Volkswagen into the way of oncoming traffic, where the Volkswagen struck two northbound vehicles, a Nissan Juke driven by a 25-year-old woman from South Elgin and a Honda Pilot driven by a 32-year-old man from South Elgin, Kintz stated.
Among those injured and hospitalized were the driver of the Volkswagen, a 17-year-old, and the 34-year-old driver of the Honda. Their accident injuries were considered to be non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Jeep was identified Michael Potts, 25, of St. Charles. As seen in the Kane County Chronicle article:
Potts received a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, Kintz stated.
