Motorcycle Collision In St. Charles Leads To Death Of Motorcyclist

Fatal Kane County Motorcycle Accident

There was a motorcycle collision Saturday (September 2, 2017) in St. Charles.  The motorcyclist died from his accident injuries.

The accident involved a collision between a motorcycle and car.  As seen in many serious (and fatal) Illinois motorcycle accidents – including those frequently summarized on this site – this collision appears to have involved a car making a left-hand turn immediately in front of an oncoming motorcycle.  Often, these accidents are because the driver of the car does not “see” the motorcycle.

An excerpt regarding the accident, as seen in the September 2, 2017 City of St. Charles media release titled “Accident with Injuries“:

On Saturday, September 2, 2017, at 12:48 p.m., the St. Charles Police and Fire Departments responded to the 1900 block of W. Main St. for a crash involving injuries. A 1996 Harley Davidson motorcycle was eastbound in the 1900 block of W. Main St. A 1999 Dodge Avenger was westbound W. Main St. and initiated a left turn to go southbound on S. 19th St. While making the left turn, the motorcycle, occupied by only the driver, was struck by the Avenger.

Both the motorcyclist as well as the driver were taken to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva for treatment of their accident injuries.

The motorcyclist, identified as Richard Klein, 64, of West Chicago, died from his accident injuries.

The driver of the Dodge Avenger, who is 17-year-old, was cited for failure to yield while turning left.

This accident remains under investigation by St. Charles Police as well as by KCART (Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team).
