An excerpt regarding the crash, from the June 14, 2018 Kane County Connects article titled “Update: Driver Dies After Minivan Collides With Semi Near Fox Valley Mall“:
The Far East Side crash happened at around 11:35 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, at the intersection of Commons and McCoy drives and involved a 2014 Chrysler Town & Country Minivan and a 1995 Freightliner Semi.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the minivan, driven by Paul E. Lydston, 43, of the 300 block of Cane Garden Cr., was eastbound on McCoy when he blew the red light at Commons and struck the northbound semi.
As a result of the collision, Lydston became pinned under the semi’s trailer and was dragged about 100 feet by the truck. He had to be extricated by firefighters.
He was first taken to an Aurora hospital for treatment of his accident injuries, and then flown to a suburban hospital. He died the morning of June 14.
The driver of the semi truck, identified as a 28-year-old man, refused medical treatment at the accident scene.
Another excerpt from the Kane County Connects article:
Lydston was cited for two counts of DUI, and single counts of disobeying a traffic control device and driving an uninsured vehicle.
An accident reconstruction was performed as part of the investigation by the Aurora Police Department’s Traffic Division.
