There was a bicycle accident Wednesday (July 12, 2017) in Aurora.  As a result of the accident, the bicyclist had a serious head injury.

An excerpt from the Beacon-News article of July 14, 2017, titled “Bicyclist suffers severe injury in Aurora crash“:

The bicyclist was crossing West Galena Boulevard near South Glenwood Place at about 11:06 p.m. Wednesday in an area where the posted speed limit is 30 miles per hour, according to a police report.

The driver of the vehicle, an Aurora man, told police he’d been westbound on Galena in the south lane about 75 feet west of Glenwood when the bicycle entered the roadway from the north. The driver said he attempted to swerve to avoid the bicycle, but couldn’t react quickly enough, according to police reports. The front of his 2007 Chevrolet Colorado struck the left side of the bicycle, knocking the rider off and onto the roadway.

The bicyclist was identified only as being from Montgomery.

As a result of the collision, the bicyclist suffered what was described as a severe head injury.  The bicyclist was taken to Presence Mercy Medical Center in Aurora, and then later taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove for treatment of accident injuries.

The driver was not injured.  Initially no traffic citations were issued.
