Fatal Motorcycle Accident Along Route 31 In Elgin

An Elgin fatal motorcycle collision occurred early Tuesday (June 11, 2019) morning. The accident involved an apparent loss of motorcycle control and led to the death of the rider, a 49-year-old man from Palatine.

This fatal Elgin motorcycle collision is discussed in a number of media sources, including the June 11, 2019 Daily Herald article titled “Palatine man killed in motorcycle crash in Elgin.” An excerpt:

The crash happened about 5:52 a.m., when it appears the motorcycle traveling south on Route 31 crossed the centerline and collided with a 2005 Honda SUV traveling north near Wing Street, police said.

The 49-year-old motorcycle driver, who was wearing a helmet, was critically injured and transported to Presence St. Joseph Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. Route 31 was closed for more than three hours.

The reason for the the motorcycle crossing into the opposing lane does not appear to be publicly disclosed at this time. This fatal Elgin motorcycle collision remains under investigation. The accident investigation is being conducted by the Elgin Police Department. An Aurora fatal motorcycle crash occurred Saturday (June 1, 2019) evening. The motorcyclist in this Aurora fatal motorcycle crash died after being taken to a local hospital.

This Aurora fatal motorcycle crash is summarized in a variety of media sources, including the June 4, 2019 Kane County Connects post titled “Man Killed When Motorcycle Crashes Into Truck on Illinois Avenue in Aurora.” An excerpt concerning the crash and the motorcyclist, who was identified as John Schwickert, 54, of Westmont:

Aurora police responded at 7:25 p.m. Saturday to the area of Illinois Avenue and View Street on Aurora’s West Side for a report of a serious crash.

Witnesses who spoke with the police on scene indicated that Schwickert was riding his motorcycle at a high rate of speed east on Illinois Avenue and ran the stop sign at Illinois Avenue and View Street, striking a 2007 Chevrolet pickup truck from behind.

At the time of this Kane County motorcycle crash Schwickert was riding a 2017 Harley Davidson Road Glide.

Schwickert was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries, but he later died.

Police do not immediately suspect intoxication as a contributing factor in the crash.

An occupant in the pickup truck was also injured during the accident, but that person was treated for injuries at the accident scene. Those injuries were considered to be minor injuries, although the type of these injuries does not appear to be publicly disclosed. Among the most common types of accident injuries resulting from a vehicle being “rear-ended” is “whiplash.”
