Crash On Butterfield Road Raises Traffic Safety Concerns

An October 19 crash on Butterfield Road is discussed in the October 24, 2018 NBC Chicago segment (video and article) titled “Dangerous Aurora Intersection Needs Traffic Signal, Crash Survivors Say.”  Highlighted in the segment are a married couple (Jessica Morelli and her husband) who were injured during the crash.

Among their accident injuries were a broken neck and arm for Jessica Morelli, and her husband Anthony suffered fractured ribs, a broken wrist, a broken pelvis, and internal bleeding which required surgery.

As discussed in the segment, at issue is whether there should be a stop light where the accident occurred.

An excerpt from the segment:

The posted speed limit is 50 miles per hour along the two-lane section of Butterfield between Eola and Farnsworth, but some say low visibility and excessive speed have resulted in far too many traffic accidents here.

According to data from the city of Aurora, last year there were 58 traffic crashes at Butterfield and Eola and 35 at Butterfield and Farnsworth.

The video shows the area in which the crash on Butterfield Road occurred, which appears to have a high volume of traffic with no traffic control device.

Additional details and possible updates concerning this crash on Butterfield Road and the associated traffic safety issue can be seen in a variety of media sources, including the article mentioned above.
