Fatal Kane County Crash Involving Slick Road Conditions

There was a fatal accident involving a Pace bus this morning (January 24, 2018) near North Aurora.  Like many other vehicle accidents in the Chicago area this morning, this accident appears to involve slick road conditions including the existence of “black ice.”  These “black ice” conditions have also caused accidents in Will County and DuPage County.

The North Aurora fatal bus collision is discussed in a variety of media sources, including the January 24, 2018 Aurora Beacon-News article titled “Elgin woman dies in multi-vehicle crash near North Aurora.”  An excerpt, mentioning the driver (Monica Cruz, 41, of Elgin) who died at the accident scene:

A Mercury Mountaineer SUV driven by Cruz was traveling north on Route 31 near Oak Street when it appeared to lose control due to ice on the road, sheriff’s officials said in a press release. The vehicle crossed over into the southbound lane of traffic and was struck by a Pace bus that was traveling south.

The Pace bus driver, as well as a bus passenger, were also injured and hospitalized with injuries considered to be “minor injuries.”

Slick road conditions appear to be a factor in the accident.
